INNOVATION MATURITY ASSESSMENT

KNOWING YOUR PLACE / BECOMING A CINORG®

For any organization having (or desiring) a formalized Corporate Innovation Program, there are always the very real and important questions of...

These are the questions that a properly conducted Innovation Maturity Assessment will answer, when done using world-class methods and tools that are based on a comprehensive benchmark.   Such an assessment will reveal your organization's level of innovation maturity and capability, and thus the effectiveness of its innovation program.   It will also reveal the gaps to achieving higher levels of maturity, so that thereafter you can develop and carry out a plan for improving the program, making your organization more capable of producing greater impact on the organization and its markets and customers.

Likewise, for any organization that wishes to not only know their current level of innovation maturity, but also seeks to attain formal accreditation of their Innovation Program from Global Innovation Institute, the GInI-sanctioned Certified Innovative Organization® Innovation Maturity Assessment is the stepping stone to achieving that accreditation.   If achieved, it is an honor that places your organization and its innovation program within an esteemed group from around the world who take their innovation programs – and the results they produce on behalf of the organization – very seriously.   These are organizations who have the real-world results to show for their efforts.

MAKING THE ASSESSMENT

As the flagship Authorized Innovation Provider® (AInP®) of Global Innovation Institute – Legacy Innovation Group executes the GInI CInOrg® Innovation Maturity Assessment Process using GInI's world-class assessment methods and tools.

The GInI Innovation Maturity Assessment is a comprehensive assessment of your organization and its innovation program, allowing us to establish your organization's current level of innovation maturity.   This specifically relates to the organization's ability to consistently deliver new innovation over time and across the organization – what has come to be known as ‘Innovation 2.0’.

The Innovation Maturity Assessment Process involves three primary steps.

  1. Step 1 is the Preliminary Document Review — Here we conduct an in-depth upfront review of documentation covering your organization's corporate strategy, its innovation strategy, every aspect of its corporate innovation program (in full detail), and the results and outcomes this program has produced over the past several years.
  2. Step 2 is the On-Site Assessment — Here we come into your physical place of operation and undertake a number of on-site interviews with your organization's key leaders and with the leaders and managers of its corporate innovation program.   Using this process, we work through several hundred questions and record answers and scores for each question.   This results in a final aggregate score for the organization.
  3. Step 3 is the follow-up Innovation Maturity Assessment Report (InMAR) that gets submitted to Global Innovation Institute (GInI) for review and evaluation.   After their review of the report, they will issue their final accreditation determination and share with you a copy of the report.

Per GInI's requirements, this process must be executed using at least two (2) GInI Authorized Innovation Assessors® (AInAs®) chosen by Legacy Innovation Group, and operating under Legacy Innovation Group's direction and supervision.   For especially large organizations, more than two AInAs® may be used.

The outcomes of this process, as documented in the InMAR, will determine whether or not your organization qualifies for formal accreditation as a GInI Certified Innovative Organization® (CInOrg®), and if so, at which of the three levels awarded... Originator (score of 3.00 - 4.99), Champion (score of 5.00 - 7.99), or Leader (score of 8.00 - 10.00).

The final report that will be shared with you by GInI (the InMAR) will contain all of the Assessors' findings, your total score and score breakdowns (with radar plots), discussions of particular strengths and weaknesses in your program, and a gap analysis indicating where improvements should be made in the future.   It will not, however, include prescriptions for how to address the program's gaps, as those types of insights are the domain of consulting (and not of assessment).

All information gathered, reviewed, and documented within this process is treated as confidential.   The upfront documentation and interview records will remain with the AInAs® and are not sent to GInI.   Only the final report (the InMAR) is sent to GInI.

THE ENGAGEMENT

The Innovation Maturity Assessment Engagement typically follows these steps:

  1. We begin by listening to you so as to understand your goals for conducting the Innovation Maturity Assessment and/or achieving the CInOrg® accreditation.
  2. We then walk you through the overall assessment process to ensure that you understand the process correctly and in full.
  3. We then schedule the on-site assessment (including a detailed interview agenda) and set dates for when your organization will provide us with its upfront documentation (for the preliminary document review).   Preliminary documents are to be provided to us no later than one month prior to the scheduled on-site assessment.
  4. Upon the scheduled date, we bring our Assessors into your organization and carry out the scheduled interviews with your designated staff members.   The on-site assessment typically takes anywhere from 3 - 5 days to complete, though in some cases can take more or less time depending on the details of your organization.   We will establish this with you upfront when scheduling.
  5. Afterward, our Assessors will complete the InMAR and submit to GInI.   This typically happens within two weeks of completing the on-site assessment.
  6. GInI will then conduct its review of our InMAR and thereafter notify you of its determination, as well as share with you a copy of the InMAR.   This process typically takes 4 weeks or less after receiving the InMAR from us.
  7. Following GInI's review, you may contact us with any questions about the InMAR, or arrange to have us come present it to your organization in person.
  8. Subsequent to this, and as desired, we can also be retained for consulting services to help you address the InMAR's gap findings, and thereby improve the innovation maturity of your organization and its innovation program.   See our Corporate Innovation Consulting page to learn more about this.

Engage us to assess your organization's Innovation Maturity.
